First and foremost, I still cannot believe I still ventured out of my warm bed in sub-zero weather for a birthday dinner!
But yes, it happened. I finally got to visit the famous steakhouse. Not only that, this one is beautiful glass house.
On arrival we were met by a lovely door host who ushered us in from the cold and made us feel very much welcome. We were offered drinks whilst we waited too but we were just too cold.
We eventually went downstairs to the restaurant area (upstairs is just the bar) and were seated after the birthday girl had a wardrobe malfunction (again, the door host came to the rescue with safety pins - much appreciated)! The ambience was nice and cosy and the tables set nicely.
Our waitress offered to show us the raw cuts so I said why not to gain the full experience. My friends were less interested.. aha ha. Nonetheless, she gave a great explanation of all the cuts and how best to have them done for full enjoyment. You can tell I like to get everything on offer, right?
My friends ordered their drinks, a bottle of champagne and cocktails and I asked for a jug of water. It took a while for our drinks to come out and so we enquired to find out that they had run out of passion fruit for the cocktails and had to go out and purchase some! Well I never (I usually make jokes like that when my order takes too long but first time actually experiencing it).
On ordering our food, we find out that there was no lamb shank left so the birthday girl got half a corn-fed chicken instead. I ordered gnocchi and broccoli with roasted almonds and Stilton. Ribeye steak was also ordered with chips and mash. There are not many options for vegetarians let alone vegans but I was expecting to have chips and dessert so actually a bonus having gnocchi.
The complimentary cheese bread was delayed because they had to bake it so we were given corn bread with butter and chimchurri followed by hot cheese bread. Absolutely delicious! I was really intrigued by the corn bread.
Our mains arrived in good timing and everyone was happy with the food. Well, except birthday girl’s spinach side that tasted as if it was over cooked so they brought her a fresh one which was much better.
I enjoyed my gnocchi especially considering it was my first time trying gnocchi. I garnished it with chimchurri (we went through two pots of the stuff!). The broccoli was not over cooked so was delighted about that but I am not a fan of the Stilton.
The food went down well and we really were stuffed. After our table was cleared, the cake was brought out as we loudly sang ‘happy birthday to you’. Our waitress had her moments but overall she was a pleasure and very helpful.
I can actually say that all the staff were great and even with delays in the service, it was well compensated with good character and humour.
Thank you Gaucho, Broadgate for hosting my dear friend’s 26th birthday dinner and making a cold night feel exceptionally warm!
I would highly recommend this Gaucho in particular for their service and lovely ambience.
Amazing food, great selection of cuts and yummy starters. I love the decoration and how spacious the place is. Also very good for ore-dinner drinks
This has to be one of the best steakhouses in the world. Cow leather seats, amazing steaks, sides and wine collection. Strongly recommend garlic spinach and mushrooms as a side for your staek.
